The Spanish team, the Women’s World Cup champion, is entering the 2025 European Nations Cup final against its English counterpart, on Sunday, where he seeks to write history again and emphasize that their love for the game does not mean additional pressures.
The Spanish team defeated England 1 – zero in the World Cup final two years ago in Sydney, and they will meet again in Basel, where the English team is seeking to defend its title.
“I am not thinking about the pressures,” the Spanish national team coach, Monthi Tommy, told a press conference on Saturday.
She added: “I think we wrote history during that tournament and reached the final and final for the first time, and we won Germany for the first time. We have achieved our goals and this is the reason for our existence here.”
The two teams met twice this year in the European Nations League, where both won in a match, while the English team won the quarter -finals and before the final in Switzerland in the last minutes.
“They showed during that tournament that they are able to win even if they did not play well,” said Tommy, who does not suffer from absences in her team.
She said: “It is a final match and we know that it is a complex confrontation against a big team and the defending champion. We played in front of them twice this year and we know that it will be a difficult confrontation, and for the team I have 23 players.”
Erney Bardis, the Spanish leader, agreed with her coach regarding the absence of pressure.
She said: “I said before that England will be in the final, both teams deserve to reach that match, we do not like the idea of being candidates, we know what it takes to be here and what we have suffered for.”
“We are a team that does not look at that match as pressure, but it is an opportunity to continue writing history and to do a great job and to show ourselves and make people happy.”
The Spanish team’s victory in the World Cup became linked to the kiss scandal that Luis Rubiales, former Spanish Federation, was involved.
Spain’s leader said she wished the world to remember this final with football only.
“Since 2023, we have made great steps forward, and the idea that women do not belong to football are in society.”
