Dennis Petrachov said that he hoped his sudden victory in the bronze medal will contribute to the 100m Sacrifice Championship in Singapore Monday, to allocate more resources to sports in his homeland Kyrgyzstan.
Petrachov (25 years old), one of only two swimmers representing Kyrgyzstan in the championship alongside Emkiz Idaraleva, has ended the race behind Chinese Chen Hi Yang, and Italian Nicolo Maringhi.
He scored a time of 58.88 seconds, which is a national record, to give Kyrgyzstan its first medal ever in the history of the tournament.
He was also only 0.65 seconds late for the first -ranked number Chen.
“I am not an emotional person, but this was very influential for me,” said Petrachov, who was swimming in the first lane. The first medal of my country in the world championship. I am very proud and happy. I never expected it. I did not know my position in the race. I saw the end of the pelvis at the conclusion of the first lap, and we were close to each other, but I saw nothing. Of course, we all want to win. Petrachov, who participated in three Olympics, and won the silver medal at the Youth Games in 2018, expressed his hope that his medal will contribute to raising the status of sport in the country in Central Asia.
He continued: «Swimming is not a popular sport in my country. We hope to get more resources to practice this sport. We do not have an Olympic pool in Kyrgyzstan. We hope this is a step for bigger things. ”
