Saudi Foreign Minister: The two -state solution is a key to the stability of the region

Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, confirmed on Monday, his country’s faith, that achieving security, stability and prosperity for all the peoples of the region begins to be fair to the Palestinian people, and enables him to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan said, during a speech to him in “the International Conference to settle the Palestinian issue by peaceful ways and implement the two states solution” headed by a Saudi -French joint presidency, that “this is not just a political position, but a firm conviction that the independent Palestinian state is the key to the real peace in the region.”

The Saudi Foreign Minister, the conference, hosted by the United Nations headquarters in New York, promised a “articulated station towards implementing a two -state solution, ending the occupation, and embodying an urgent and sustainable vision for peace in the Middle East”, stressing “the importance of concerted international efforts through our conference, and (the global alliance to implement the two state solutions) in order to support the Palestinian people in building their capabilities and enabling their national institutions.”

Prince Faisal bin Farhan valued the declaration of French President Emmanuel Macron, his country’s intention to recognize a Palestinian state, in “a historical step that reflects the growing international support for the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state, and contributes to creating international airspace to embody the two -state solution.”

He pointed to Saudi Arabia’s keenness, since the beginning of the “catastrophic” humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the serious escalation in the West Bank, to provide immediate and continuous support; Whether through humanitarian and relief aid, and by supporting the United Nations working bodies, led by “UNRWA”, “UNICEF” and “The World Food Program”, as well as the Palestinian Authority.

The Saudi Foreign Minister stressed that this humanitarian catastrophe due to the grave Israeli war and violations should stop immediately to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, hold those responsible accountable, and end the policy of impunity in line with the rules of international humanitarian law.

He continued: “In the context of our practical commitment to support the peaceful settlement, Saudi Arabia praises the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s commitment to the institutional reform march in a way that enhances the ability of the Palestinian Authority to meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people, and the measures taken by the Palestinian government in this framework led by Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Mustafa,” looking forward to supporting these efforts in the areas of development, empowering youth, and stimulating the Palestinian economy and protecting it from collapse.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan pointed out to his country’s initiative, in cooperation with France, to secure the approval of the “Executive Council” of the “World Bank” to transfer an amount of $ 300 million to the “extraordinary fund for Gaza and the West Bank”, referring to memoranda of understanding that Saudi Arabia is working to conclude with the Palestinian Authority to support human resources and digital transformation, develop the education sector, and explore ways of cooperation between the Palestinian business sector and its Saudi counterpart.

He added, “We give special importance to supporting digital transformation and developing education in Palestine, by transferring experiences in the digital government and developing digital skills for government cadres,” noting that “enabling Palestinian youth to know technology is the cornerstone of building a prosperous and sustainable future.”

The Saudi Foreign Minister described the Arab Peace Initiative adopted by the “Beirut Summit” in 2002 as “an inclusive basis for any fair and comprehensive solution”, stressing the importance of supporting the “coalition of implementing a two -state solution” as a practical framework to follow up on the outputs of this conference, and coordinate international efforts towards implementing clear and temporal steps to end the occupation, embody the Palestinian state, in a way that achieves stability and security for all countries of the region, and promoting economic integration between Its countries, and in a way that contributes to enhancing international peace and security.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan called on all the present countries to adopt the closing document of the conference, which “constitutes a common road map) towards implementing the two -state solution, confronting attempts to undermine it, and protecting peace opportunities that are still possible if the will is available.”

For his part, French Foreign Minister Jean -Nawil Barrow said: “It is not possible to accept the targeting of civilians in Gaza,” noting that the war in the Strip lasted for a long time and must stop.

He continued in his speech at the conference: “We have to make a two -state solution a tangible reality,” noting that the two -state solution meets the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians, and that the conference of the two -state solution must be a turning point to implement the solution, and added: “We launched momentum that cannot be stopped to reach a political solution in the Middle East.”

In turn, in his speech, the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, thanked Saudi Arabia and France for organizing the two -state conference, and said: “This conflict can be stopped with a real political will,” noting that the two -state solution must be achieved.

Guterres added, “The inclusion of the West Bank is illegal and must stop,” noting that the actions that undermine the two -state solution are completely rejected and must stop.

The conference aims to find an immediate solution to Israeli violations in Palestine, and to end the conflict by achieving a two -state solution.
