After Daniel Born, a member of the German Social Democratic Party in the Parliament of the State of Baden -Wortteng, drew a swamped cross (the symbol of Nazism), the Socialist Party of Born demanded the complete step down.
The party said that his presidency calls for Born to immediately abandon the membership of Parliament, and to abandon his candidacy on the party’s list of the state parliament elections, where Born is ranked fifth on the party’s list of the 2026 elections, according to the German News Agency.
For his part, Andreas Steoukh, head of the party’s party branch, said: “Daniel Born has made a serious mistake. In order to avoid further damage to the party and the parliamentary bloc, the resignation is inevitable. ” He added that the decision came after extensive consultations. The head of the party’s branch, MP Born, also called for resignation from his positions within the party, whether in the party’s presidency or in the regional executive council.
However, Born, 49 years old, a lawyer, still wants to keep his parliamentary seat until the end of the legislative session, and said in a statement to SWR radio that he is a democratic socialist with all his prejudices, and wants to continue his work as an independent deputy of the Chefsingng Circle.
Born was acknowledged that he drew a swamped cross next to the name of a deputy from the “Alternative for Germany” party during a secret vote last Thursday. In addition to his resignation from his position as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Born also announced his departure from the Parliamentary Bloc of the Socialist Party.
In a personal statement, Born described what he did as a “hasty reaction” and a “grave mistake.”
He wrote, explaining that he wanted to show that the vote for the alternative party in any kind of elections is a vote in favor of hatred and right incitement. He added that “the alternative party is certainly extreme, and a party that despises democracy, and the growing accustomed to it no longer leaves me any signs of calm.”
