The United States rejected proposals that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri deposited to the American delegate, Thomas Barak, during his recent decorations to Beirut, calling for Israel to take withdrawals from Lebanese territory and stop violations, in preparation for the launch of dialogues with Hezbollah to implement practical steps to hand over its weapon, according to representative and Lebanese government sources to Asharq Al -Awsat.
The sources said that Lebanon was not informed of an American sheet written in rejection, but “Lebanese contacts with the American side, as well as Brak’s tweets in recent days, led to this atmosphere.”
She explained that Washington “insists on starting Lebanon with the exclusivity of weapons on its soil from a government decision”, at a time when Hezbollah refuses to take any practical step, before Israel implemented its obligations in the ceasefire agreement “signed last November.
According to the sources, Berri conveyed a proposal to Barak, which included a demand that Israel stop its violations of the ceasefire agreement and start withdrawing from the Lebanese territories that it has occupied since the last war, in exchange for persuading Hezbollah to participate in a government session and take practical steps in terms of implementing exclusive weapons, then things go according to the principle of “step by step” from both sides.

Government sources said that the frequent contacts “showed an American rejection, as part of the American pressure on Lebanon to hold a government session in which it approves mechanisms for implementing exclusive weapons.”

According to the military correspondent of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Authority, the commander of the northern region of the Israeli army, Uri Gordin, expressed during a meeting with the leadership of the region his self -criticism, saying that “Israel allowed a monster to grow on the borders for years, a monster threatening its citizens, and fear of behaving was wrong, and today we have to act differently.”
