From the blatant hostility to al -Madinah, an important shift has emerged in the position of the governor of the Darfur region, (West Sudan), Mona Arko Minawi, of the “Rapid Support Forces”, and this new position sparked a lot of speculation and controversy, regarding what the man wants, as a major ally of the Sudanese army in his war against “rapid support”.

At a press conference, on Monday night, from Port Sudan, the temporary administrative capital of the country, Minawi expressed his lack of reluctance to communicate with the “Rapid Support Forces”, led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hamidati), and the Democratic Civil Alliance of the Revolutionary Forces, known as “steadfastness”, anti -war in Sudan. He said: “We have no problem in communicating with (Rapid Support Forces) if we touched a positive and reasonable opinion from it,” as well as with the “Samoud Alliance” led by former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk.

The “Sudan Liberation Army” movement heads the largest armed factions consisting of “the joint force” in the Darfur region, which has sided more than a year ago to fight against the army against “rapid support”. The numbers of the “joint force”, which is fighting alongside the Sudanese army, are estimated at more than 5,000 fighters, most of which are the forces of the “Sudan Liberation Army”, led by Minawi, and the “Justice and Equality Movement”, led by Finance Minister Gabriel Ibrahim, and constitutes the largest force in defending the city of El Fasher.

Additional or reconciled?

The timing of Minawi’s speech, which was described as closer to the language of truce and reconciliation, unlike his previous hadiths, is inseparable from the great pressure posed by the suffocating siege imposed by “rapid support” on the city of El -Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, which represents a social military weight center for the “joint force”, and its fall means losing an important pressure card, against its ally, the Sudanese army.

Manawi criticized, in a threatening message, the Sudanese army and the forces supporting it, not to move to break the siege on Al -Fasher, after the participation of all forces, including the “joint force” led by, in defeating the “Rapid Support Forces” from the capital, Khartoum and the state of the island in the center of the country. He said that Al -Fasher is a city besieged for more than a year, and even women and children have carried weapons, and it is steadfast until now, but there is a “great cold from the systems and even from the country itself”, in a clear reference to the Sudanese army and the forces fighting in its ranks.

On the other hand, the governor of the Darfur region, “Minawi, attacked the declaration of the government of a founding coalition” led by the “Rapid Support Forces”, in the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, and said: “This can only be described as a serious threat, which clarifies the extent of international intervention in the country’s affairs.” He added, “We reject any step that leads to the division of the country, or a violation of Sudan’s sovereignty and lands.”

Anxiety and welcome

The armed movements in what is known as the “joint force” have previously exerted pressure on the head of the Sovereignty Council, the commander -in -chief of the army, Abdel -Fattah al -Burhan, to obtain its full share in the new government, by virtue of its active participation in the military field against “rapid support”, and the threat of some of its leaders indirectly to rebel or join the other party, and it means “rapid support”.

While some saw a major shift in the media discourse of the ruler of the Darfur region, describing it as closer to a political initiative to stop the war, his speech sparked a wave of anger among the supporters of the Sudanese government, which directed its media on social media platforms to attack it. Some of them indicated the fear that it would join the “Rapid Support Forces”.

The heavy attack on the governor of Darfur province, sympathetic to a previous talk more than 5 months after the outbreak of the war between the army and the “Rapid Support Forces”, in November 2023, revealed that his contacts with leaders of “rapid support” were not interrupted.

In turn, the head of the Sudanese “Congress” party, Omar Al -Daqir, saw that “the statements of the man who occupies the head of the political committee in the alliance of the democratic bloc, loyal to the army, represented a positive development in the context of the search for a peaceful political solution to the current national crisis in Sudan,” and said: “We welcome it.”

In a post on his Facebook page, Al -Daqir reiterated the invitation to the army leadership and “rapid support” to return to negotiation, with the aim of reaching an agreement to stop the shooting, allowing to address the worsening humanitarian catastrophe, and take effective measures to protect civilians.
