After a series of meetings and consultations, the Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam decided the issue of the cabinet discussing the issue of “exclusive weapons”, as it announced that it will be on the agenda of the council next week.

Salam said in a statement on Wednesday, that the cabinet session, which was scheduled for Thursday, was postponed because it coincides with the date of the legislative session of the parliament, indicating at the same time that the Council of Ministers will hold two sessions next week, and on the agenda of the first session will be the subject of the completion of the research in the implementation of the ministerial statement in an apartment related to the establishment of the state’s sovereignty over all its territory, its own forces exclusively, which the discussion began in a session 17-2025 To research the arrangements for stopping the hostilities for the month of November 2024, which included the (American delegate) paper, Ambassador (Thomas), Brak, ideas about its application.

The contacts between Lebanese officials intensified in pursuit of a government session looking to exclusively weapons in the hands of the state.

In this context, a meeting was recorded on Tuesday morning between the presidents of the Republic, Joseph Aoun and the government, Nawaf Salam.

The Presidency of the Republic said that President Aoun received President Salam, and presented with him the general situation in the country, and recent developments, in addition to the official visit of President Aoun to Algeria, and the draft laws offered to the House of Representatives.

The efforts made by Salam to hold a comprehensive session of the government, provided that this is with the approval of the “Shiite duo” (“Hezbollah” and “Amal Movement”), and its participation in light of all the pressures that Lebanon is exposed to and officials to take a firm and decisive decision on the exclusive weapon.

In addition to the demand of some forces in Lebanon to present the issue to the Council of Ministers and take the official decision on it, after it was previously announced by the President of the Republic in the department’s speech and the prime minister in the ministerial statement, a message sent by the American envoy Tom Barak to the government emerged, stressing that “its credibility depends on its ability to reconcile principles and application, and that the words will not suffice as long as (Hezbollah) retains weapons.”

Government sources say to Asharq Al -Awsat that the consultation is continuing, and the meetings and communications carried out by the prime minister in this context, the last of which was the meeting that he gathered with the President of the Republic, who had previously announced that he was communicating with Hezbollah.

Knowing that Salam had met during the past days with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and former Speaker of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt.

While attention is directed to the position of the “duo”, parliamentary sources in the “Amal Movement” bloc, which is headed by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri by saying to “Al -Sharq Al -Awsat” that the Speaker of the House of Representatives does not oppose any matter under the roof of the discourse of the department and the ministerial statement. While not showing her pessimism in front of the possibility of consensus, she says: “The Speaker of Parliament is different from what is being traded regarding the inventory of weapons and setting a schedule for it.” And she confirms: “His opinion is clear in this framework and he is based on all his efforts to establish stability according to the requirements of the national interest.”

No positive indicators

Ministerial sources say to Asharq Al -Awsat that President Aoun is the first to launch the exclusive weapon, and therefore there is no doubt that he supports the holding of the cabinet session, but the problem lies in the party concerned with this issue, that is, Hezbollah, who is also represented in the government.

And she adds: “The American envoy asked for an explicit and clear position by the party regarding the implementation of Resolution 1701, and therefore if this position is not issued, we will be in a vicious circle and we will be in front of a problem,” noting that “there are no indications by the party to participate in a government session or agree to announce the Council of Ministers for a plan of action on the exclusive arms.”

In light of the information that is spread in recent days in Lebanon about threatening messages that arrived in Lebanon stating that Israel will carry out strikes in the coming days, the sources say: “The information we have does not reflect this atmosphere, but there is no doubt that there is pressure on Lebanon, which is reflected and reflected by the statements of the American envoy.”

Barak deadline

On the “deadline” that Brak had talked about, saying: “Every stage of the solution has a deadline, and one of them is August 1, and I can say that Lebanon will not face a second Israeli war.” And the government announces a plan to disarm the party. ”

The deadline run out

The demands in Lebanon continue to take a quick decision regarding the withdrawal of Hezbollah’s weapon, which was what the “Kataeb” party drew in its weekly meeting, and he said in a statement after the meeting of its political office, “With the escalation of challenges, the Phalange Political Bureau confirms that (Hezbollah) is evident in the rejection of any research on the issue of weapons, in a flagrant departure from the constitution and the law, which puts the state in front of a merit that cannot be ignored. What was stated in the position of the American delegate, Tom Barrak recently, clearly indicates that the time granted to Lebanon began to run out.

From here, the “Phalange Party”, the state, calls for a firm approach to imposing its authority and applying laws, on the entire Lebanese territories, before it is too late, and holds the “Phalanges”, “Hezbollah”, the full responsibility for any security or political deterioration that may affect Lebanon as a result of this persistence, in light of the increase in international warnings of the consequences Dangerous repercussions and increased isolation.

The head of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Samir Geagea, assured Al -Sharq Al -Awsat that “the cabinet is required to meet now, and to make a decision to dissolve all military and security armed organizations in the country within a period of one, two or four months, and assigned the Lebanese army to implement this decision,” objecting to “the logic that going to disarm (Hezbollah) without its consent leads to the danger of the civil war.”
