Turkish police have carried out a new wave of arrests in the context of investigations related to alleged corruption in the Istanbul municipality, whose facts began to arrest its president, Akram Imamoglu, the most prominent competitor of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the presidency.
The Turkish police arrested 20 new suspects in the round of raids, at dawn on Tuesday, as part of the ongoing investigations into suspicions of corruption in the Istanbul municipality, which is controlled by the Republican People’s Party and its departments.
The campaign came according to a new arrest warrant issued by the Prosecutor of Istanbul, which included 25 people, including the head of the public transport company in the city.

The prosecution accuses the suspects of falsifying public tenders offered by the municipal road company from among other matters, while the opposition said that the investigations are targeting its political leaders, and comes as part of a series of “political” investigations aimed at weakening the party that excelled for the first time, more than 20 years ago, on the ruling Justice and Development Party, in the last local elections held on March 31, 2024, and preventing the presidential candidate, Akram, Akram Imamoglu, to run in the elections as the largest competitor to Erdogan.
Obstacles to the “Kurdistani” solution

He set a number of conditions so that his party participates in the committee, foremost of which is not to address the amendment of the constitution and the release of the detained politicians, led by the two former participants of the “Democratic Peoples” party supporting the Kurds, the mayor of Istanbul Akram Imamoglu, and the mayor of Assynart, Ahmed Ozer, and abandoning the practice of detention without trial.
He added that the committee must be formed with equal representation, that is, the representation of all parties equally, and if this is not achieved, it must be taken by its decisions by the necessary qualified majority in order to join it, and it should not be a committee aimed at enabling the Justice and Development Party and its ally the National Movement Party to do what they want.
Form and objections
The number of members of the committee, which is scheduled to start its work at the beginning of August (August), was determined with 51 members of Parliament, including 21 deputies from the “Justice and Development” party, 10 of the “Republican People’s Party”, 4 from each of the “Democracy and Equality Parties” and the “National Movement”, 3 deputies for each of the “good” and “new road” parties, and one of the parties that have no parties that have no parties that do not have Parliamentary groups, which are: “The New Welfare”, “Hoda Bar”, “Turkish Workers”, “Work”, “Democratic” and “Democratic Left”.
It was reported that the committee will make its decisions by a majority of its members, and that it will draw a road map of the dissolution of the Kurdistan Workers ‘Party and its weapons, and will discuss the regulations and amendments necessary for its legislation, including the similar regulations for the “Law of Return to the Homeland” that was applied in 2003, which stipulated the reduced provisions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party members who are not involved in terrorist attacks from those who are from terrorist attacks from those who are not involved They choose to get out of the party.

“We strongly reject this designation, if we want to achieve a democratic solution to the Kurdish problem in this country, I would like to say that it will be more correct to use a description that is right on peace and democratic society, rather than expressing it through terrorism and security policies.”
Turkish Parliament Speaker Noman Kortulmush had used the name “Türkiye Committee free of terrorism” for the committee in statements made on Sunday.
At the same time, the “Justice and Development” parties, the “national movement”, “democracy and equality for the peoples”, supported the Kurds, and “the new path” (democracy, progress, happiness and future), “the democratic left”, “work” and “Hoda Bar”, the nomination of members of the committee, which the “National Good” party announced its boycott.
