A vote to isolate five parliamentarians, amid charges of Chinese intervention Arabausa

Today, Saturday, voters in Taiwan make their votes aimed at isolating the five members of Parliament, all of them from the main opposition party, in a move that its supporters hope to send a firm message to China, while opponents describe it as an attack on democracy, according to Reuters.

The Taiwan government said that this vote, which is the largest parliamentary isolation in the history of the island, is facing an “unprecedented” electoral intervention on the part of China, which Taiwan is part of its territory, in response to the island’s categorical rejection of these allegations.

This process may reshape the balance of power within Parliament, and gives the ruling “Progressive Democratic” party led by President Lay Cheng-Dah an opportunity to restore its legislative majority.

Although Lay won the presidential elections last year, his party lost his majority in Parliament. Since then, the opposition has reviewed its strength to pass the laws of the government and impose a budget reduction, making efforts to increase defense spending in particular.

This political move comes at a time when China has its military and diplomatic pressure on Taiwan, in an attempt to confirm its regional demands that he and his government reject. Despite his repeated calls for dialogue with Beijing, these calls were rejected by China, which describes it as “separatist”.

China is closely monitoring the fraudulent insulation campaign, as the Taiwan and official media affairs office has repeatedly suspended the voting process, using a similar speech for that, which was adopted by the President’s opposition party, “Komantang”, to criticize Lay, according to Reuters last week.

The authorities in Taipei said that Beijing is “clearly” trying to interfere in its democracy, stressing that the decision to isolate or keep the deputies is a matter of the Taiwanese people alone.

Today, the fate of 24 deputies from the opposition party is decided today, where they are tolerated and sub -elections for their seats, while a vote is expected to dismiss 7 other deputies from the same party on August 23.

The groups calling for isolation describe themselves as a “anti -communist movement”, accusing the opposition party of Taiwan’s betrayal by sending deputies to China, not supporting the defense budget, and provoking chaos in Parliament. On the other hand, the party denies these accusations, and accuses President Lay of imposing a “dictatorship” and “green terror”, in reference to the color of the ruling party.

The opposition party entered into a state of complete mobilization to confront what it described as a “malicious isolation” that does not respect the results of the recent legislative elections, stressing that his communication with Beijing comes within his legitimate regulatory powers on the government.

The polls are closed at 4:00 pm local time (08:00 GMT), and the results are expected to appear in the evening.
