Democrats appeal to Trump to intervene to stop starvation in Gaza
A large number of Democrats in the US Senate appealed to the administration of President Donald Trump to intensify its role to stop the suffering and hunger in Gaza, and sent 44 democratic members in the Council a message urging the resumption of ceasefire talks, and strongly criticizes the American -backed Israeli Gaza Organization, which was established to distribute food aid in the sector.
Democrats accused the organizer of failing to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and to contribute to the high number of civilian deaths seeking aid.
At the same time, the independent Senator Bernie Sanders prompted a draft resolution in the council to stop sending bombs and offensive rifles to Israel, accusing her army and government of deliberately starving Gaza and committing massacres against them.
The seriousness of the human situation
The Democrats sent an open message to the Foreign Minister, Marco Rubio, and the Special Envoy, Steve Whittvo, in which they urge the Trump administration to reconsider its approach to Israel’s support, especially after the ceasefire had collapsed last week, noting the seriousness of the humanitarian situation in Gaza. They demanded the intensification of providing aid to the sector through experienced organizations in the work in the region.
Four Jewish members of the Democratic Bloc in the Senate have bought these appeals, Adam Chef from California, Chuck Schumer from New York, Jackie Rosen from Nevada, and Braya Shatz from Hawaii.
The message also called for hard work to restore 50 hostages of Hamas, which is believed to be 20 of them still alive.
The signatures of 44 members of the Senate, representing the vast majority of the Democratic Bloc in the Senate, showed the unity of legislators regarding one of the most important foreign policy issues, and called in their mission to end the war, end the control of Hamas on Gaza, in addition to opposing any permanent displacement of the Palestinian people.
In the letter, Democrats defended a long -term goal of establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel. Senator Adam Chef said that the message showed how most of the bloc believes that “the current situation is not continuing.” He added, “There is a lot of sadness and death, a lot of hunger and loss of lives.”
Trump admits famine
The message coincided with Trump’s confession, during his meeting with British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer in Scotland on Monday, that there is a famine and a lot of children in the Gaza Strip suffering from malnutrition, declaring that the Gaza Strip is facing a real famine and unbalanced.
He announced that the United States will establish “food centers” inside Gaza to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in light of the Israeli siege imposed on aid, and stressed that these facilities will be open to all “without borders” and “without walls”.
These statements are a great difference and distance from the statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has repeatedly denied a famine in Gaza. In his statements, Trump indicated that Israel “bears a great responsibility” for the restrictions imposed on the entry of aid to Gaza, even as he continued to blame Hamas for the collapse of the ceasefire negotiations and not to release the hostages.
Democratic Senator Brian Shatz of Hawaii said that the changes that Israel made in the way it allowed to enter aid to Gaza was wrong, adding that it was “absolutely unreasonable” that the Israeli army, which claims to be one of the most advanced armies in the world is unable to facilitate the distribution of aid or control of the crowd.
Senator Tim Kane of Virginia, Democratic Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he had not yet heard about the centers announced by Trump, and that he was “very skeptical” that his plans will address the issue of famine in Gaza.
A vote to prevent weapons to Israel
Although Senator Sanders of Vermot did not sign the message, he prompted the council to vote on a draft resolution to prevent arms sales to Israel. This legislation was referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, amid ambiguity on the possibility of voting on it before the legislative leave of the Congress
The Trump administration had notified the Congress last March of its plans to send more weapons to Israel, including thousands of bombs that weigh one thousand pounds and tens of thousands of offensive guns. The draft resolution aims to ban the sale of these bombs and offensive rifles, and only requires a simple majority vote for its approval.
Sanders said in a statement. We cannot continue to support a government that prevented humanitarian aid, caused a tremendous famine, and the inhabitants of Gaza literally have been destroyed. ”
He added, “It is time for a long time for Congress to use its influence to demand Israel to end these atrocities.”
“The continuation of these arms sales would violate American laws that prohibit the assistance of governments involved in severe human rights violations and obstructing aid,” said Senator, who has always attacked Israeli policies since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip.
Sanders tweeted on the X platform, saying: “It is time for Congress to stop the financing of the illegal and horrific Israeli war against the Palestinian people, and the United States must not support the government of children.” Sanders participated on Tuesday evening in the “Source” program on the “CNN” network, during which he accused the Israeli Prime Minister of lying about the clear famine in Gaza.
Sanders led efforts during the administration of former President Joe Biden to prevent the sale of US weapons to Israel, and he had not received equal support from 14 democratic members of the Senate.
Since the Trump administration came to the White House last January, weapons sales have been approved for 12 billion dollars, and the administration has raised a ban by the Biden administration on the delivery of bombs weighing 2000 pounds used by Israeli forces in Gaza.
