The American envoy, Tom Barak, sponsored a meeting in Paris, on Thursday, between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani, with the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, on the eve of a second meeting, yesterday, Barak, Al -Shaibani and France Foreign Minister, Jean -Noel Baru, aimed to support the transitional process in Damascus.
Barak said in a tweet via the “X” platform: “This evening (Thursday) met with Syrian and Israeli officials in Paris,” adding that “the goal of the meeting is dialogue and stopping the escalation, and we have already achieved this,” and stressed that “all parties confirmed their commitment to continue these efforts.”
This meeting is the highest official participation for more than 25 years, when former US President Bill Clinton, in 2000, sponsored a meeting between the Syrian Foreign Minister, Farouk al -Shara, and the Israeli Foreign Minister at that time, Ehud Barak. Observers believed that the Paris meeting Thursday was “a first step” on the path of “taking measures to build confidence from both sides.”
Yesterday, Paris witnessed a triple meeting that brought together Barak, Barrow and Shaibani, during which the support of the unity and sovereignty of Syria was emphasized, joint cooperation to combat terrorism and emphasize support for its efforts in holding the perpetrators of violence, and the continuation of consultations to implement the tenth of March agreement with the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF). The three parties stressed the need to quickly engage in efforts to ensure the success of the transition.
