Chinese Prime Minister Lee Qiang announced today (Saturday) that his country proposes to establish a global organization for cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, calling on states to coordinate their efforts in the fields of development and security, according to Reuters.
In his opening speech at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, he described me artificial intelligence as a new growth engine, but he added that governance is still fragmented, stressing the importance of enhancing international coordination to form a recognized global framework for artificial intelligence.
This three -day event brings together industry leaders and policy makers at a time when technological competition between China and the United States is escalating, the world’s largest economies, and artificial intelligence is a major battlefield.
The Chinese Prime Minister said: “At the present time, global artificial intelligence governance is still fragmented. There are major differences between countries, especially in areas such as organizational concepts and institutional rules.
He added, “We must enhance coordination to form a global framework for artificial intelligence that has a wide consensus as soon as possible.”
The United States has imposed restrictions on exporting advanced technology to China, including the latest artificial intelligence chips made by companies such as “Inviteia” and chips manufacturing equipment, based on fears that this technology may enhance China’s military capabilities.
Despite these restrictions, China continues to achieve achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, which necessitated a large audit by American officials.
The United States did not mention to me the name in his speech, but he warned that artificial intelligence could become a “exclusive tool” for a few countries and companies.
He said that the challenges include a lack of artificial intelligence chips supply, and the restrictions imposed on talent exchange. He explained that China wants to share its development expertise and its products with other countries, especially the countries of the global south.
