The Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, said today, Wednesday, that “Gaza is witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe that exceeds anything we have seen in modern history,” stressing that his country continues its contacts with Arab leaders and international partners “to pressure towards ending the war.”

A statement issued by the Royal Court reported on King Abdullah as saying during his meeting with media figures in the Husayniyah Palace in Amman, that “Jordan was and will remain the largest bond of the people in Gaza, which is witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe that exceeds anything we have seen in modern history.”

He added: “The suffering of the siblings hurts and affects our humanity at the core, not only because what is happening is close to us geographically, but because our country is built on mutual love and standing alongside all those who face suffering.”

He continued: «We are fully aware that the current relief efforts, despite their importance, are not sufficient to confront the horror of such severe suffering, as entire families are exterminated and children are starving, but we are continuing to provide all of our power in our moral, human and Arab duty, which we do not say and do not wait for thanks to it. We do not ignore the call of our needy neighbor. ”

The king pointed out that “it is not hidden from one of the feelings of anger that ravages the hearts of Jordanians due to the killing and starvation in Gaza, and I am the first to feel it.”

The Gaza Strip, which has a population of about 2.4 million people, is under the weight of a siege imposed by Israel since the outbreak of the war between the Hebrew state and the Hamas movement after an unprecedented attack launched by the movement on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023.

The delivery of aid from the air in Gaza was resumed on Sunday, while Israel announced a limited daily “tactical suspension” of its military operations for humanitarian purposes in some areas of the Strip.

Britain, France, Belgium and Germany announced that it intends to establish an air bridge similar to the delivery of food and medical supplies.

The Commissioner of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency described the Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) Philip Lazarini on Saturday the resumption of dropping humanitarian aid from the air in Gaza as a “ineffective” step in the face of the humanitarian catastrophe that ravages the Palestinian sector.
