At the opening, the United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that sponsors the international conference with the participation of France, and said that the conference “represents a rare opportunity”, calling for the establishment of “two independent, adjacent, democratic, and sovereign states, and recognized by all, and fully integrated into the international community … on the basis of pre -1967 lines, and Jerusalem is the capital of both countries.”

For his part, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, stressed that the Kingdom believes that the two -state solution is a key to the stability of the region, noting that the New York conference is a detailed station towards implementing this solution, and appreciating the announcement of French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement of his intention to recognize the State of Palestine.

The Saudi minister stressed that the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza must stop immediately, and that his country secured with France to transfer 300 million dollars from the World Bank to Palestine.

“We have to work to make the two -state solution a tangible reality,” French Foreign Minister Jean -Noel Barrow said in his speech.

17 countries participate in the conference, which called in its interventions to benefit from the momentum that brought it towards a two -state solution, as well as the Saudi -French presidency in different committees, to prepare two major documents expected to be issued by the conference.
