On Friday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his deep thanks and appreciation for the efforts of Saudi Arabia, and its honorable positions led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Prince Muhammad bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which contributed to the historical French commitment to recognition of the State of Palestine.
The Palestinian President welcomed the message of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, in which he stressed his country’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly in September, appreciating this courageous step that would contribute to establishing peace on the basis of a two -state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy and the provisions of international law.
Abbas stressed that Macron’s declaration represents a victory for the Palestinian right, and reflects France’s keenness to support the Palestinian people and their fixed and legitimate rights in their land and homeland, and its commitment to international legitimacy, urging the countries of the world to take similar steps, and recognize the state of Palestine on the basis of the internationally recognized state solution, based on international legitimacy decisions.
The Palestinian issue is receiving great attention from Saudi Arabia, which did not hesitate to defend it with various international forums, as it has repeatedly confirmed that it is its first cause, and adopts fixed and supportive positions of the rights of the Palestinian people in the establishment of its independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Saudi Arabia stressed that the UN Security Council cannot dispel its responsibilities under any pretext, calling on it to take courageous decisions to ensure the fulfillment of the benefits from which the Palestinian people were deprived.
A statement of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Macron’s announcement as a “historic decision” confirming the international community’s agreement on the right of the Palestinian people to self -determination and establish an independent state, renewing the call to the rest of the countries that have not yet recognized, to take such positive steps and serious positions that support peace and the rights of Palestinians.
Not only did the role of Saudi Arabia depend on political positions, but donor countries in providing support to the Palestinian people with a total assistance of about 5.5 billion dollars, through 306 projects in multiple development and humanitarian sectors.
