The Spanish engineering company “Technikas” and the Chinese energy giant “Cinopk” won the initial engineering design contract (Feed) for a huge project to convert green hydrogen into a green amonia in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
The project was assigned by Aqua Power, and it will include a 4 GB station of electrolysis, which will enable it to produce 400,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. This hydrogen will then be converted into a green ammonia for export. The project also includes an infrastructure for water desalination and an export station to support global distribution, although renewable power generation assets are excluded from the current design stage.
This contract extends for 10 months, after which the “Technikas -Sinopk” coalition is expected to present an engineering, purchasing and construction stage (EPC) with a value of estimated billions of euros. With the targeting of commercial operation by 2030, this initiative will significantly contribute to expanding the ability of the Kingdom’s renewable hydrogen export, which enhances its location as a leading supplier of green ammonia to industrial carbon removal markets and power generation worldwide.
