Nigerian President Paula Tenobo received the National Women’s Team Mission on Monday after crowning the African Nations Cup title
For the tenth time, in an unprecedented record.
Tenobo gave gifts to the women of Nigeria after defeating poor preparations and a lack of financial supplies, by winning the continental title on the land of Morocco on Saturday. The Nigeria team scored an exciting return (Rimontada) and flipped two goals against Morocco, with a guest, to an exciting victory 3/2 in the continental final.
“The team managed to dominate, although the Nigerian football authorities do not put much funding, care, attention and planning in the way the national team managed,” Solas Choco, a football analyst residing in Lagos, told the Associated Press (AB).
The Nigerian women’s team did not get matches rewards for years, and the team was forced to stop training in 2022.
The president did not agree to pay the dues of the players until days before the continental final, and the team was unable to play friendly matches before the tournament, and it was reported that their training equipment was not available.
This problem is common in Nigeria, where sports competitions often suffer from lack of financing, corruption and mismanagement that led to prominent scandals, which caused a prominent athlete to represent other countries.
But the women’s teams are more affected by others, and this is partly due to the way in which women are always viewed in Nigerian society, according to Olashina Okelee, a sports analyst that focuses on African affairs, and “AB” quoted Oakeli saying: “The Nigerian (Nigerian) argument is that men bring more money than women, but the truth is that women bring most of the prestige, decorations and titles to Nigeria. ”
The Nigerian women’s national team dominates African football, thanks to this in part until Nigeria preceded everyone in establishing a professional league in 1978.
However, hegemony on the continental scene has not moved to the global scene, and analysts believe that this matter is due to the failure of the authorities to achieve the maximum benefit from the women’s teams.
